The Fight Against Malnutrition Continues

The Fight Against Malnutrition Continues: Over 1,000 Children Receive Nutritional Care in #Manta The City Hall of Change, led by Mayor Marciana Valdivieso, has taken an important step in the fight against child malnutrition with the official launch of the Heroes of Health mission. This initiative, which partners with the School Meals program developed in conjunction with the World Food Programme (WFP), focuses on the nutritional assessment and care of school-aged children between 3 and 5 years old.

The Heroes of Health program aims to benefit over 1,000 boys and girls from 16 educational units in the rural area and the most vulnerable urban areas, encompassing fields such as general medicine, nutrition, psychology, dentistry, and speech therapy.

Its unique model in Ecuador is implemented in Manta with resources from the City Hall and the support of volunteer hearts. Mayor Marciana Valdivieso highlighted the importance of joint work to eradicate child malnutrition in Manta. “We have to do this work together until we declare Manta free of child malnutrition because a healthy child is a child who learns, who develops their full capacity to dream, to believe, and to grow,” she said. Children will be provided with a lunchbox containing hygiene and food supplies.
